Research Data Management is establishing itself as an integral part of research work nowadays. For collaborative research, it is more than crucial a culture of good data practices is in place to enable and encourage research data curation, sharing and reuse. This training workshop aims to provide a balanced overview of the major components in research data management, an introduction to the current best practices, and an exposition of the available tools and services. We will start with the principles of FAIR data, cover the basics of research data management planning, and touch upon metadata authoring for research datasets. We will review the criteria for selecting research data repositories, and provide some hand-on exercises. The workshop will consist of about 6 invited talks on research data management, plus one or two hands-on sessions (e.g. using online tools/services for research data management plan development, for metadata authoring, and for dataset deposit).
This workshop is jointly organized by Tyng-Ruey Chuang (Academia Sinica, Taiwan), Rorie Edmund (World Data System), Simon Hodson (CODATA), and Sarah Jones (Digital Curation Centre, UK). It is co-located with the International Symposium on Grids & Clouds 2020 (ISGC 2020), and supported in part by the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, and a research grant from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan.
Official Workshop Language
